What Percent of My Paycheck Should I Give to Charity Each Month?

Rachel Cruze

Money Management for Parents

Rachel: Another great giving question!

I always say 10% because that’s the biblical model of the tithe. But even if you aren’t a person of faith, it’s a good amount. You’ll feel it when it leaves your bank account, but it also won’t break the bank.

Giving is such an important issue that I always encourage people to make it the very first line item in their budget. When you focus on giving, you’ll pay more attention to others and become a less selfish person. You see the world around you better, rather than always looking out for your own interests.

Think about how much better the world would be if we all just gave 10%!
