Q: How can I make sure my kids are responsible with money when they grow up?
Rachel: That’s a great question with a simple answer.
Be the adult you want your kids to be when they grow up. More is caught than taught, and your kids are watching you.
If you pile up money on credit cards, if you and your spouse are fighting over money once a week, if you’re buying a new toy every month but struggling to make the house payment, your kids will eventually see that.
But if you model good behavior and teach them that debt is dumb and how to live on less than they make, then you’re setting them up for success—and, better yet, they know what success looks like!
So that’s the best advice I can give you to raise kids who are responsible with money. Don’t just tell them how to do it. Show them how to do it.
